WELCOME TO CAMPION COLLEGE

Nau mai, Haere mai, Greetings

The Catholic Church as a long tradition in the field of education.  In Gisborne, this tradition spans over 100 years.

Campion College has its origin in two former single sex colleges which operated in Gisborne.

The Marist Brothers staffed a school for boys originally in Lowe Street.  The Sisters of St Joseph staffed St Mary's College in Childers Road.  The Sisters of St Joseph and the Marist Brothers established a fine heritage characterised by a keen pursuit of excellent standards.

In 1960 the Marist Brothers transferred the boys' school to the site presently occupied by the College and known at that time as Edmund Campion College.  In 1974 the boys' and girls' schools were brought together on the same site and in 1976 the administration as a Co-education College was set in place.

In 2005, Year 7 and 8 students were relocated from St Mary's Catholic Primary School to become part of Campion College.

The College now caters for students from year 7 to year 13.

The College preserves the right to teach the  Catholic faith as directed by the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand and to express it s own special character in its various activities.

We are a family College – we aim to create a caring community where every member is valued.

Being a relatively small secondary school we are able to work positively to maintain the small class sizes so that every student is given personalised attention by a staff committed to working within a Christian environment.

We have a reputation for academic, cultural and sporting excellence and a strong commitment to helping every student reach his/her full potential.

We invite you to join us at a school that has a warm and cheerful atmosphere in which students feel secure, are aware of what is expected of them, work hard and are encouraged to develop fully so that they may be best prepared for life beyond school.
