SENIOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The Senior School operates for students in Years 10 to 13.  The major components of the senior schooling philosophy are to:

  • Allow students to move through each curriculum level at a pace which caters for their academic abilities.
  • Focus all courses toward NCEA assessment so that students enjoy success in nationally recognised qualifications.

The senior schooling curriculum structure focuses on:

  • Semesters  A semester is a half year course.  The school year is divided into two equal length semester courses.  The semester structure increases student choice of subjects and offers them greater flexibility in programme design.  The semester structure also allows for greater staff specialisation in courses.
  • Curriculum levels and not year levels for courses.  All courses are offered at four levels.
    • Foundation Courses
    • Level 1 Courses
    • Level 2 Courses
    • Level 3 Courses

The focus on curriculum levels allows students to work at the level of their educational ability.

Year 10 Students
At Campion College Year 10 students are included in the Senior School.  In making this decision we have given consideration to the fact that most of our Year 10 students are beginning their fourth year of learning at Campion.  This change helps increase their academic focus as all courses have an NCEA component.  The flexibility of the semester structure also supports the development of students educational maturity as they become more proactive in choosing their curriculum directions.

The Health programme is incorporated into the Year 10 Religious Education courses.

Scholarship Programmes
Scholarship programmes are the highest based assessments offered within the College.  Scholarship courses follow the NCEA Level 3 prescription but the assessment is at a higher level.  Students are formally accepted into the Scholarship programme at the beginning of the year.  We provide additional support of one period/week to all Scholarship students endorsed by the College.
